Bringing Specialized Care to Mothers and Babies
For women with high-risk pregnancies, Sacred Heart offers the region's only perinatal center, which includes a series of outpatient offices across Northwest Florida and an inpatient unit at our sister facility, Sacred Heart Hospital Pensacola.
Our Pensacola campus is also home to The Studer Family Children's Hospital at Sacred Heart, a 117-bed facility that serves as the only children's hospital in Northwest Florida. The Children's Hospital also offers the region's only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Through our dedicated Neonatal Critical Care Transport Unit stationed in Miramar Beach, we are able to bring prematurely born and critically ill babies to The Children's Hospital in Pensacola for lifesaving care. Thank you to our incredible sponsors for their support of the Neonatal Transport Unit, including the Caduceus Society on the Emerald Coast, Destin Charity Wine Auction Foundation, Walmart and Sam's Club.
To better serve our community and help keep families together during the first few days of a child's life when bonding is so important, Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast is building a 10-bed, level II NICU to provide high quality, personalized care for babies who need special medical attention. Advanced care in the NICU will include short-term respiratory ventilation, oxygen therapy, IV nutrition and more. The NICU team will include board-certified neonatologists (pediatricians with specialized training in the care of critically ill infants), neonatal nurses, developmental specialists and other therapists and technicians. Adding this next level of care for babies at the Family Birth Place will enhance the overall quality and experience for families for generations to come.
Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast is backed by The Studer Family Children's Hospital at Sacred Heart in Pensacola. The Children's Hospital provides the region's only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for the most critically ill and premature newborns. Should a baby need surgery or have complex medical needs beyond what can be managed at a Level II NICU, stationed at Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast is a specially equipped mobile Neonatal Critical Care Transport Unit stationed in Miramar Beach to provide rapid transfer of premature or critically ill newborns to The Children's Hospital.
Our medical staff offers more than 120 board-certified physicians across 28 pediatric specialties – including surgery, radiology and anesthesiology. The Children's Hospital also features child-sized equipment, pediatric pharmacists, pediatric dietitians, child life specialists, and nurses, technicians, respiratory therapists and rehabilitation specialists who are dedicated to and work only with children. Without these services provided at The Children's Hospital in Pensacola, families of the Gulf Coast would have to travel as far as New Orleans, Atlanta, Gainesville or Jacksonville for specialized pediatric care.
