The Joint Replacement Program at Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast provides comprehensive care for patients receiving hip or knee replacements. Using the latest techniques and state-of-the-art equipment, the healthcare team of orthopedic surgeons, specially trained nurses, social workers, and physical and occupational therapists provides patients with individualized treatment plans to help patients return to a higher quality of life. In 2012, the program earned The Joint Commissionís Gold Seal of Approvalģ for demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commissionís national standards for healthcare quality and safety in orthopedic joint replacements. The certification award recognizes Sacred Heartís dedication to continuous compliance with The Joint Commissionís state-of-the-art standards.
Joint replacement surgery involves removing a damaged joint (where two or more bones come together) and putting in a new one. In some cases, your surgeon will not remove the whole joint, but will only replace or fix the damaged parts.
Replacing a joint can help relieve pain and increase movement. Joints that can be replaced include the shoulders, fingers, ankles and elbows. Hips and knees are replaced most often, according to National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS).
"The staff at Sacred Heart took great care of me during and after the surgery. The rehab at the hospital was fantastic; They got me up and ready to go home in record time. I was playing golf again after six weeks - with no pain. Now I'm back in the swing!" - Sam Reda (read more of Sam's story here)
